This traditional corner-terrace property is a lovely example of a sandstone cottage. Just a short distance from the centre of Elgin, and about 1 km from UHI Moray, 7 Main Street is ideally placed for use as a student house or a small home within a reasonable distance of Inverness, Aberdeen, Lossiemouth, and of course, Elgin and the surrounding area.
Constructed in the middle of the 19th Century, the cottage has been well built from local materials and has spacious rooms that are filled with attractive features, nooks and shapes. The entrance to the property is via steps that lead into a small courtyard which offers a private outdoor area for plants. The entrance opens onto a hall that leads to a small bedroom. Depending on the needs of the new owner, this room could easily be adapted into a home office or study.
A cosy double aspect siting room with two deep windows, and an attractive wood burning stove in a brick hearth overlooks the front and side of the property. The room is simply decorated in white with a partially glazed door and hard flooring, providing a comfortable, airy space.
The kitchen is surprisingly spacious and arranged in a galley layout. Black tiles, wooden cabinets and grey worktops give the kitchen a welcome contemporary edge. A glazed patio door leads to a paved outdoor space.
A carpeted staircase leads to the attic bedroom and bathroom. The large bedroom enjoys a great deal of sun with its south facing view ensuring there is plenty of light. This is a delightful room and has a beautifully coombed attic shape with soft plastered corners echoing its traditional construction and materials.
The bathroom has been well fitted with modern sanitaryware and features a bath with a shower over, it is a good size for the scale of the property.
With its neutral colour scheme, contemporary fittings, gas central heating and period details, 7 Main Street, New Elgin, is a lovely cottage in a fabulous part of the Highlands and early viewing is recommended of this unique and interesting property.
