Culloden is known for the Battle of Culloden, fought in 1746. It was the last pitched battle on British soil and remains an important part of Scottish history. The battlefield is preserved and managed by the National Trust for Scotland.
This historic site is separate from the residential suburb. Areas such as Culloden Moor, Balloch, and Westhill developed later to support housing demand.
Modern Culloden expanded as Inverness grew eastward. Planned housing developments created the structured residential layout that defines the area today.
